New Thought Churches

New Thought Churches

150 years of Original Goodness Brought to the World!

Wrapping your head around the whole idea of ‘New Thought Churches’ isn’t actually the easiest thing to do.  The New Thought Movement is simultaneously:

  • A paradigm shift in personal development
  • An Empirical Science
  • A Religious Movement

What makes this a bit heady is the fact that it is all three of these things at the same time, but not necessarily all three of these things at any one individual.  Let me explain, some people within the movement are all about the Personal Empowerment / Personal Development aspects of it, they have no need or interest in the Religious side of it.

The New Thought Movement is flexible and doesn’t require a person to accept the religious aspects of it to reap the rewards of the Personal Development aspects of it.  Make sense?

New Thought Churches are springing up all over the world and have been for the last 150 years, each one with their own ‘best’ version of the Truth.  Remember, we’re talking about close to 10 million people involved in the movement these days, so any attempt to ’sum-up’ anything is going to come up a bit short.  Some of these Churches believe that you must follow their ‘brand’ while others believe that you can pick and choose what works best for you.

Enter the Empiricists:

So we’ve got the Personal Development faction, the Religious Faction, and the third faction:  The Empiricists.  Personally, I’m one of the empiricists, so I feel that disclaimer should be clear because I am writing about the Churches, but I am not associated, affiliated, and in no way endorse any of the Churches whatsoever.

So what’s an empiricist?  The third group of New Thought Practitioners, the Empiricists, are all about the real world evidence behind the principles.   Empirical means:  “information gained by means of observation, experience, or experiment.” Empiricists generally enjoy the theories, philosophies, even the pseudo-science of it all (the term Church of Christian Psuedo-Scientists is meant affectionately) but as a rule the Empiricists are always more concerned with the observable results the different principles and practices produce.

Here at the International New Thought Learning Center we represent the Empirical perspective of the Movement.  This is really important to understand because these principles at back of the New Thought Movement are responsible for some of the biggest accomplishments in human history and despite what anyone says, the principles work for anyone regardless of their religious affiliation.

Now, onto the Churches:

If someone asked you to sum up Christianity in a short essay, you’d be on a short path to upsetting a lot of people.   When last I checked there were over 250 different Christian Faiths on the planet, each with their own unique set of rules, guidelines, and approach to the faith all calling themselves Christian.

New Thought Churches are a lot like that.  They all call themselves New Thought Churches, but they can be as different as night and day.  There’s pretty much ten major Churches within the movement:

Church of Truth:
